This week I present Ashlyn Buchi, hairstylist extraordinaire and rock & roll queen!  Well known for her innate ability to accomplish the perfect ombré hairstyle and for her unique assortment of tattoos, Ashlyn's style tends to speak for itself though she coins it as being "edgy hobo".

If you had to compare her wardrobe to anyone, it would be that of Erin Wasson. Her color of choice is black but now and then she'll surprise us with a pop of color. She's got a knack for cutting holes in her clothing and redesigning them to fit her sense of style, and her collection of leather jackets is one that many girls envy.

When it comes to shopping she prefers to shop online, but she doesn't have any specific favorites. The one fashion tip Ashlyn would give is "not to try too hard. Don't look to someone else to find your style. Find it within yourself!"

Ashlyn styles hair over at Ulysses Salon on 629 South State St at (801)953-0954. Hit her up if you're looking to try something new.

For week three, we met with Chelsea Horrocks, a sweet girl with a classic sense of style. I’ve known Chelsea for about three years now and she never fails to have impeccable taste for simple yet iconic pieces. And her ring collection is even better!
She pins her style as being “vintage elegance with a bit of gypsy flair”. When going shopping, Chelsea loves the 9th and 9th area and prefers boutiques like Hip and Humble and Lolabella.  She looks to characters on television and in movies to influence her wardrobe, and particularly enjoys stars like Blake Lively and Scarlett Johansson’s sense of style.
Chelsea doesn’t like to follow trends too closely, she prefers to buy whatever catches her eye and make it work with things she already has. And when it comes to dressing yourself, she says “don’t over think things, if you love something, buy it!” Chelsea works at a local flower shop called La Belle Fleur with owner Stacie Hardy, and absolutely loves what she does.

This week’s localista is Andrea Brown. Andrea is a 22-year-old model from Salt Lake with legs for days, and an overall eclectic style. We met at local hot spot Nostalgia (248E 100S) and found out all there is to know about what she looks for in fashion.

Andrea’s style is based on her mood, generally she gravitates towards styles from the 80’s and 90’s but it depends on how she feels from day-to-day. She likes to find pieces that no one else has, so she does most of her shopping at places like the DI or any thrift store she comes upon. Andrea has worked in places like Korea and Shanghai, so a lot of her clothing has been purchased while working overseas.

As far as who and what inspires her, she says that she is influenced greatly by those around her, friends especially! She loves anyone with a good street style and really admires designer Alexander Wang.

Her favorite part about modeling is the travel, she jumps at the opportunity to go out and work with talent from all around the world. As far as local artists, most recently she has enjoyed working with photographers such as Jozef Mitchell, Zuzanna Audette, and Steven Stone.
Here are links for some of Andrea’s most recent work for Estero Magazine and Zuriick’s newest campaign, “Unidentified”.

At Ugly Magazine we're constantly searching for local fashionistas and lately have fallen in love with the trends we see our models wearing when they come to shoot the editorials and covers for our magazine. So, we wanted to introduce you to some of them and get a look at what inspires their collections!

Each week myself, along with photographer Armand Sanchez, will be sitting down with a local model to take a glance into his or her own wardrobe. This week we had the opportunity to meet with Sunflower Robinson. It was great to get a peek into her life and hear about what inspires her!

We sat down with Sunflower over at our local favorite cafe, The Rose Estb. (400 w 235 s ) where we ordered a pot of tea and chatted about fashion and what inspires her. Sunflower's style is about being rock & roll with an 80's influence, and she loves men’s style with a biker edge

A lot of her unique pieces she finds at places like Savers and the DI as well as local vintage favorite, Decades. Sunflower's other favorites come from online at Nastygal and ASOS.

Sunflower has been modeling for a couple of years and most recently shot for Sophie St. Claire's collection featured at AMF (you can see the photos in our current issue or in AMF's brochure). It was so great meeting with Sunflower! We can’t wait to see what she does next in the modeling world!
